The base. A 1993 Nissan 240sx SE Hatchback. It comes to me as totally stock with approx 120k miles.

2/02/02 Purchased car from shady dealer. Scratched windshield, busted antenna (common on 240's) and a worn synchro in 2nd gear. It hadn't even been washed. Sorry, the digital camera images are grainy.

2/??/02 Found out gas tank leaks.

2/??/02 Transfer Headunit from Stanza.

3/07/02 Purchased Walbro High Flow Pump from Enjuku Racing

3/12/02 Pump Installed, Tank Repaired.

3/14/02 Car starts missing, Hope its plugs and wires, Know it isn't.

3/25/02 New rear tires from Highland tire. BFGoodich 205/55R16 Touring Ta's.

4/08/02 Order Nology Braided wires in blue from Imports.Racesearch.com

4/18/02 Wires arrive and are installed with splitfire plugs. Car sounds different, still misses. Uh oh.

4/30/02 Car goes in the shop. Walbro pump blew the #4 injector despite Enjuku's claim that it wouldn't be a problem. Was afraid of this. Order AEM fuel pressure regulator from Cox Imports

5/23/02 I have discovered the joy of Ebay. Won my first auction. Plenty of crap to come I'm sure. Pictures and details as stuff arrives.

5/30/02 After a month long ordeal, involving a backorder, and impossible to find fittings for the AEM regulator, the car is back. Let me just say, that I am pleased with Cox Imports service, and the infinite patients of the folks at Endurance Autos, who didn't gouge me in the end. While AEM makes a good, versitle product, the fittings were impossible to find. Anyone who buys this regulator (one of the only made for a 240sx) needs to know that Holly carb. fittings are the *exact* same thing.

6/01/02 - 6/07/02 Been working too much to update each item individualy. Installed a new shift boot and clear corners. Also swapped my busted-ass rear speakers for a set of Infinity Kappa 462.5cfg 4"x6" plates. If you have to have 4"x6" speakers, they outta be nice.

6/14/02 Making my first effort at starting a club...

6/20/02 Found out what my mechanic called a minor temperature fluctuation, possibly the temp. sender. Was actualy my head gasget. By this point, anyone reading this is thinking, that car is a fucking lemon! Trash it! To which I would reply I would go in debt up to my eyeballs to keep that car. This being said, bring on the SR.

7/5/02 Placed my order with Heavy Throttle for an S13 blacktop and some odds and ends.

7/15/02 Placed my order with Dragon Intakes for a cone filter.

7/22/02 My blacktop is in the US! But Heavy Throttle needs an additional $100 to send it to me. Humm..

7/xx/02 My order from Dragon Intakes arrived, in silver, not blue. Dragon Intakes never did get back to me. I contaced Weapon-R directly for an exchange. They got the correction back to me within a week.

8/5/02 My engine is shipped from California.

8/13/02 Dropped the 240 off at Modified Motorsports in Harrisburg. My engine still hasn't arrived.

8/14/02 My engine finally reaches Modified. It has cosmetic damage from the shipping process, and a broken cam angle sensor. Heavy Throttle says give them a list of any broken parts and they will send me the replacements. Cam angle sensor replacement is in the ECU box.

8/20/02 Went to Modified to photograph the engine and any damage.

11/24/02 Long time since an update. Lots of personal issues. The motor has yet to start. Modified took their time (approx. 2 weeks) to even begin the swap. The physical motor installation went without a hitch. The initial wiring only took a few days. The engine would crank, but not start. The wiring was checked agian, seemed to be a bad ignitor. ECU and ignitor were sent back to HT for inspection. After a 2+ week delay, HT returned the parts, indicating they were in perfect working order. I gave modified a copy of the FSM, they rechecked the wiring and performed the ignitor diagnostic. The ignitor failed the diagnostic. Several other possible causes have been swapped and found to be working. We are now waiting for a spare ignitor. Below are some of the worst quality pictures yet.

01/08/03 Research, Research, Research. It turns out, not all SR20DET Ecu's are created equal. The common view seems to be that they are all interchangeable, this is just not true. It seems I have an E6 ECU, which is not compatible with the 180sx Type X harness. Here is a listing of my findings so far:

    #11 - Oct 1989 to Aug 1990 U12 Bluebird, SR20DET, Automatic

    #60 - ????

    #61 - 1991 to 1993 180SX/Silvia Redtop SR20DET, Automatic

    #62 - 1991 to 1993 180SX/Silvia Redtop SR20DET, Manual

    #63 - Jan 1991 to Jan 1994 180sx SR20DET, Automatic

Jan 1991 to Oct 1993 Silvia SR20DET, Automatic

    #E5 - 1994 to 1996 180SX Blacktop SR20DET, Manual

    #E6 - Jan 1994 to Aug 1996 180sx(RS13) Blacktop SR20DET, Automatic

    #J7 - 1997 to 1998 180SX Type-X Blacktop SR20DET, Manual

None of this information is for sure. This is the best I can dredge up off the 'net. (i.e. It's not my fault if you use this info and fry your ECU.)

Generaly, it seems that Auto and Manual are interchangeable. However, there seem to be suttle differences in the harnesses. Some will not run, some run on one cylnder only. For my project specificaly, I suspect that the E6 ECU is not compatible with my harness. I will be swapping for an E5 from Heavy Throttle.

1/10/03 It seems there is any easy way to tell the 180sx Type X harness from the other SR harnesses. The engine room harness where the harness plugs into the compressor, the wire is yellow with a green stripe. On all other SR harnesses the wire is Blue/green.

The previous problem seemed to be fixed by swapping in the 3rd ignitor.

1/16/03 It ran and drove. Only a minor boost leak to go.

1/17/03 Picked the car up from Modified. Minor boost leak. Spec 3 clutch is amazingly tight, it will take some getting used to. My ABS light is on, clutch does some funky things intermittently. Hood prop is missing. left without the KA parts I wanted or the other Weapon-R goodies. Car is quick, but held back by the leak.

1/18/03 Drove the car for a while, the clutch issues has gotten worse. I think it is air in the hydrolic system. Sterio has no sound. Pulled the SMIC. Boost leak is clearly from a blown gasget.

1/20/03 Dismantle the SMIC. Remove both gasgets and sand the surfaces down. Cleaned the parts thoroughly. Re-assembled the IC with silicon gasget. Modified agreed to look over the clutch/abs issue. Also agreed to repair the stereo.

1/23/03 Car goes back to Modified.

1/24/03 Cltuch Master & Slave replaced. Problem isnt fixed.

1/27/03 Trans came off. Clutch is all in working order. Working on finding a replacement trans.

4/09/03 Trans found, replaced. Car out of shop. Found car was broken into. All Weapon-R stuff was stolen. Nology Wires stolen.

4/26/03 Order test pipe from HT.

5/02/03 Cars @ Carlisle. Friday & Sunday were great fun. Got some ok pictures. Mini website is Here.

5/03/03 Clutch still makes noise. Aggressive shifting under heavy acceleration is nearly impossible when tranny is hot. Air in the cables or the stock SC can't handle this clutch. New parts soon.

5/18/03 1:00am Import War @ Hershey Park is tomorrow (today). Went outside to clean my car up / take it to a carwash and it won't start. Run down all the basics, fuses, igntion, start signal, etc. It will drift start, can only assume it is the starter or starter wiring. It ran for almost a full month this time!

5/20/03 Turns out the not starting was simple a wiring problem. Problem is the starter wires had come un-TWISTED. Lets just say I dont recomend Modified Motorsports.

6/12/03 I bought a bunch of new stuff a while ago, its all here now. The car is in the air getting a new JUN Ultra-Light Flywheel and SPEC 2 clutch. The SPEC3 just isn't gonna be streetable. Same guy hooked me up with a new exhuast mani and Greddy VSPL for cheap. I can't wait.

Just a few days ago my friend George (the grey S13 in the Carlisle show) was in an accident. He got off easy with only a few cuts and a broken rib; The 240 was not as lucky. Sorry for the loss George, but its good to know a 240 will save your life. The Wreck.

8/16/03 I simply haven't felt like updating this page lots of changes. Jun Ultralight & Spec 2 are in and feel great. Rev-happier and the Spec 2 grabs plenty. Installed VSPL along with an Enjuku BOV kit & Greddy Type S BOV. Relocated battery to hatch with the help of the Heavy Throttle kit. Also finally installed Weapon-R coolant catch tank. Tho i dont like where its mounted. Money is comming faster now, so will be new parts. Pictures of everything soon.

8/25/03 Installed Rockford Fosgate 100amp circuit breaker; just in case. Car heat-soaks after about 20 minutes of driving. Ordered insulation. Possibly a new digitalcam soon, delaying picutres till then.

8/29/03 Received & installed Apexi N1 Duals.
